Come on down! We invite you to join us on freshly broken ground. We’ve created new spaces here, spaces that dance between suburban houses and makeshift shelters. We’ll meet by the water that weaves across the land like a serpent. There will be celebrations for every season; extended families will gather beneath ancient trees, among beautiful medusas and fragments of river. We will tell our stories, difficult and necessary; we will rewrite the stories that need rewriting. We will invent utopian cities, garden theatres, places to visit our ancestors. We will care for the recent shoots and the old branches both, and those that break off in the wind will fuel our fires. Our roots don’t only hold us in place; they also show us new paths to follow, they tell us to welcome what is to come.
However, these new spaces, real and imaginary, are yet to be fully dreamed up by visiting artists, by our public, and by colleagues reunited. Now back in our newly renovated space at Méduse, we aim to make VU a place where community can truly take root, where hospitality can adopt new and myriad forms. Over the past two years, we have focused on supporting inspiring artists and art-making, and this essential support will continue. At the same time, we are overjoyed to be resuming in-gallery exhibitions. Nos accueils are both deeply rooted and always in motion, hands outstretched, living images that give life.
