Eau Millieu

This first monograph on Lucie Lefebvre, a superb volume with full-colour illustrations, presents her photographic work from 1991 to 1994. An essay by the art historian and independent curator Sylvie Parent, and a foreword by Gaëtan Gosselin, director of VU, examine the artist's project. Lucie Lefebvre's photographs feature a range of motifs suggestive of the origins of life: algae, shells, nuts, hearts, internal organs, surgical instruments, meteors, etc. These constructed landscapes around water and its symbolism propose a troubling interpretation of the natural world and science's enquiry into it. In series entitled Salle d'urgence, Phytographies and Astres marins, Lucie Lefebvre reveals mysterious sympathies between the worlds of biology, medicine, astronomy and marine ecology.
