About the Artist

About the Exhibition

Donigan Cumming lives and works in Montreal. He is an internationally renowned artist who has been working for more than twenty years in photography and video. He enquires into the representation of marginal people and their moving, ridiculous and often tragic fantasies. Major solo exhibitions of his work include Reality and Motive in Documentary Photography at the Centre national de la photographie in Paris and at the O.K. Harris Gallery in New York, The Mirror, The Hammer, and The Stage at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, La Répétition at the Musée de l'Élysée in Lausanne, Switzerland and La somme, le sommeil, le cauchemar at the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris as part of Mois de la Photo 2006. In 2005, as part of the exhibition Moving Pictures at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto, Cumming presented the monumental diptych Prologue & Epilogue and a box set of 18 videos, Donigan Cumming: Controlled Disturbance, produced by Vidéographe in Montreal. Donigan Cumming is the author of Pencils, Ashes, Matches & Dust published by Éditions J'ai VU.

Donigan Cumming benefited from an artist's residency at Centre VU for the creation of Kincora.

In conjunction with this exhibition, an evening of videos by Donigan Cumming is being held by Antitube.
