About the Exhibition

Bertrand Carrière

Bertrand Carrière was born in Ottawa and lives in Longueuil. His photography, with its interest in memory, history and the land, explores the sometimes conflictual relations between the past and the present. For the past thirty years Bertrand Carrière's work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Quebec and abroad, including at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010, the National Gallery of Canada in 2011 and Houston's Museum of Fine Arts in 2011. His series Lieux Mêmes was presented at the Stephen Bulger Gallery in Toronto in 2009, the Galerie Simon Blais in Montreal in 2010 and the Historial de la Grande Guerre in Péronne, France in 2011. Several publications have focused on Bertrand Carrière's work, including Témoin de l'ombre (1995), Voyage à domicile (1997), Signes de jour (2002), Hivers (2003) and Dieppe. Paysages et installations (2006), published by 400 coups. His work can be found in the collections of several cultural institutions, including the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris, Encontros da Imagem in Braga, Portugal and the Cinémathèque québécoise in Montreal.
