About the Exhibition


Lise Bégin studied at the École des arts visuels de l'Université Laval and teached art at the Lévis-Lauzon CEGEP. Her work was exhibited at VU from December 2 to 13, 1987, as part of the collective exhibition and auction Calendriers de l'imaginaire.

Rodrigue Bélanger lives in Quebec City. He holds a master's degree in visual arts from Université Laval (1999) and a bachelor's degree in photography from Concordia University (1994). He was coordinator of Éditions J'ai VU from 2001 to 2008 and is presently a part-time instructor at Université Laval and Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. The series Les Tas (2009) was shown at VU from 26 March to 25 April 2010.

Pierre Gauvin lives and works in Montreal. He holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Concordia University, where he studied photography, cinema and electro-acoustic music. The series Projections à domicile (1994) was exhibited at VU from 11 April to 7 May 1995.

Lorraine Gilbert was the first winner of the Karsh Award, in honour of Yousuf and Malak Karsh, in 2003. She lives and works in Ottawa. A graduate of Concordia University (1987), she teaches in the visual arts department of the University of Ottawa. The series Vancouver Days & Nights (1978-81) was exhibited at VU from 2 August to 13 September 1981.

Nicole Jolicœur lives and works in Montreal. She studied at the École des beaux-arts de Québec (1964-69) before obtaining a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at Rutgers University in New Jersey (1981). She taught at Université Laval's École des arts visuels from 1972 to 1990 and at the Université du Québec à Montréal's École des arts visuels et médiatiques from 1990 to 2007. The series Ruses, a two-person exhibition with Paul Lacroix, was presented at VU from 21 February to 16 March 2003.

Paul Lacroix lives and works in Quebec City. He studied at the École des beaux-arts in Quebec City and Montreal as well as in Paris and Milan and taught for many years at Université Laval. The series Ruses, a two-person exhibition with Nicole Jolicœur, was presentedat VU from 21 February to 16 March 2003.

A multidisciplinary artist whose work includes painting, film, music and photography, Michael Snow lives and work in Toronto. He is a recipient of the Governor General's Award in Visual and Media Arts and a member of the Order of Canada. His work can be found in numerous public and private collections around the world. The series Still Living (9x4 Acts, Scene 1) (1982) was shown at VU from 9 February to 4 March 1984.
