Trace et aura

Thinking along the lines of two Benjaminian concepts of fertile ambiguity, trace and aura, the meeting of three photographic series offers a perceptual experience in which near and far intertwine. Playing with the formal juxtaposition of views of islands in compositions that sometimes confuse the scale of sites, Alphiya Joncas redraws a geography imagined from fragments of remote landscapes. An exploration of vast territories by Martin Guimont follows, with a series where the solitary gaze gets lost in the inaccessibility of the distant, sometimes obscured, horizon. To these unreachable perspectives, Audrée Demers-Roberge responds with photographs blurred by too great a proximity and presented in an installation that reveals the pauses of the walker on a continuing journey. United as a constellation in this exhibition, the works can be perceived as the traces of the light emanating from three distant natural spaces that, in this way, come closer together.
